TALENTED four-year-old Banca Mo produced arguably a career best effort when he won a benchmark 78 race over 1600 metres in Launceston tonight (Wednesday) in the very last stride.
Classy mare Devon Lass had established a two-length break on her rivals 200 metres out and Banca Mo had to call on al of his raw ability to clinch victory in the shadows of the post.
It was a masterful ride by Brendon McCoull who had the gelding settled midfield and poised to pounce on the home turn.
Devon Lass pinched a decent break but Banca Mo kept finding under strong riding from McCoull and in the end it was the gelding’s class that told over the concluding stages.
It was the four-year-old gelding’s fifth win from nine starts and after the stirring win his trainer Scott Brunton declared the gelded son of Tough Speed was a future weight-for–age horse.
“He is one of the best horses in the sable and not too far down the track he’ll be running in weight-for-age races,” said co-trainer Scott Brunton.
Banca Mo was purchased at the 2009 Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale for $3000 by Mandy Gunn who’s first venture into racehorse ownership was with talented mare White Yard.
