UNDERRATED mare Redbougg gave her owner Karl Thomas a much needed boost when she powered her way to an impressive win in the Boags Premium Benchmark 68 Handicap over 1350 metres at Tapeta Park Spreyton on Sunday.
Redbougg ($8.70) travelled near the speed for in-form jockey Eddie Brennen and when he called on the lightly framed five-year-old mare for the supreme effort on the straight she gave her all.
The mare went on to score by a head from the fast-finishing Adams Star with Atlanta King almost two lengths astern.
The win was a tonic for Thomas who was grieving for a close family member who died during the week leading up to last Sunday’s race.
Redbougg is trained at Spreyton by Dean Wells who described the mare as an ugly duckling type that always looks as if she isn’t fed.
