WELL-BRED pup Wynburn Alpha powered his way into the Hobart Maiden Thousand final with an emphatic win in his semi-final at UBET Park Hobart last night.

The Ben Englund-trained dog won his heat clocking a slick time (26.47) on debut and last night he bettered that time by stopping the clock at 26.33 over the 461-metre trip for what was the fastest time of the night.

He began well from box three to lead comfortably to the to turn ahead of Lynden Rise and Keep Ya Stripes.

Lynden Rise that also won his heat looked set to run to the leader bit Wynburn Alpha (Where’s Pedro-Miss Hetti) refused to wilt and hit the line a clear winner and was easily holding his rivals at bay.

Wynburn Alpha is from a litter of four with Wynburn Toozie the only other sibling to race and he finished third in his semi-final after winning on debut in his maiden Thousand heat.

Wynburn Toozie was backed in to start the $1.90 favourite on the strength of him notching the quickest time of the 12 heat winners (26.14).

But when he missed the start and settled last his winning chances fizzled with the Margaret Rossendell-trained Punchestown taking full advantage.

Punchestown (Bekim bale-Agent Nellie) began well from box five and when he assumed control the end result was never in doubt.

The son of Bekim Bale held sway by two lengths from Asgard Warrior and Black Wyatt turning for home and he held that ,margin to the line to defeat Asgard Warrior’ with Wynburn Toozie a closing third.

The Anthony Bullock-trained Brusha Borne caused an upset win in his semi-final coming from last on the turn to score impressively over Cassa Black and Enfield Class.

Brusha Borne ($41) was the rank outsider in fixed odds betting with UBET.

Fifteen Two and Cassa Black shared the lead to the top turn with Bellewstown and Nebraska Beach poised to challenge.

But when the leader was checked from behind it caused a domino effect that left Cassa Black in front for the run home but he had no answer to Brusha Borne’s powerful finish.

While he scored impressively his time of 26.94 was the slowest of the four semi-final winners.

Brusha Borne is from a litter of nine bred by his owner Barry Heawood.

His litter brother Joker Jones has shown the most promise so far with Hat Trick Babe and Runout Babe also showing above average ability.
