VICTORIAN trainer Robert Smerdon celebrated another feature Tasmanian feature race win when his filly Chabaud scored an emphatic win in the $100,000 Listed Tasmanian Oaks over 21090 metres.

With Mark Zahra in the saddle Chabaud was snagged back to last from her wide barrier and she was still at the rear 700 metres out.

Zahra set the filly alight at the 600-metre peg and so quickly did she sprint she had the field covered at the top of the home straight.

Chabaud, that was backed in to start at $4.40, kicked clear and went on to defeat the Gai Waterhouse-trained Sweet Redemption ($3.10 favourite) by just under a length with Electric Aura ($28) a close-up third just a head of Alamonteel ($16) for an all-Victorian finish.

Genuine Art from the Scott Brunton stable was the first Tasmanian horse home in fifth place.

“Robert has always had a good opinion of this filly as stayer and he had the Tasmanian Oaks on the radar some time back,” said stable travelling foreman Greg Nelligan.
