The Tasmanian harness racing industry will continue to benefit from having a second clerk of the course at all of its race meetings thanks to a two-year TOTE Tasmania sponsorship.
The TOTE sponsorship will also provide funding assistance to cover training costs for clerks.
TOTE Tasmania initially sponsored a second clerk of the course between December 2009 and December 2010 following a decision by Racing Services Tasmania that two clerks were required at each race meeting, as is the case in other states.
TOTE Tasmania CEO Craig Coleman said the company had recently agreed to extend the sponsorship for another two years.
“While we are no longer directly involved in the funding of the racing industry, we are pleased to continue supporting the harness code in this way,” he said
“The need for two clerks of the course was beyond the funding ability of the clubs.
“Importantly, two clerks at every harness racing meeting will ensure that safety procedures and OH&S policies are strictly followed.
“It also assists to guarantee the professionalism and integrity of the code.”
Tasracing CEO Gary Lottering welcomed the ongoing sponsorship arrangement with TOTE Tasmania.
“Tasracing is committed to providing a safe working environment for all of its employees, racing industry participants and visitors to racing sites in Tasmania,” he said.
“The assistance provided by TOTE Tasmania is helping to meet this important commitment.”
