Burdon pins hopes on Ponderosas Gamble

VETERAN standardbred owner-breeder Derek Burdon has enjoyed his share is success over the years with horses he has bought or bred down at his Marion Bay property.

At Tattersall’s Park in Hobart tonight Burdon will be relying on a two-year-old named Ponderosas Gamble to put him in the winner’s circle.

Ponderosas Gamble is facing the starter for the third time and goes into the opening race on the nine-event card with a debut second and a fifth of eight to his credit.

While his most recent outing doesn’t look very encouraging on paper there was a lot to like about the performance and his debut effort when beaten by Advanced Art showed he had potential.

Tonight he has drawn awkwardly one-off the inside of the second row but trainer-driver Paul Williams should be able to encourage him to go forward and take up a slot in the one-out line.

If he secures a good position then the gelded son of Metropolitan-Goldleaf Art should be able to present when needed to stake a claim on the race.
