Hobby trainer Paul Belcher is hoping his promising filly Romantic Moment can improve enough on her debut performance in Hobart on Monday night to be competitive in the upcoming Betfair 2YO Fillies Sweepstakes Classic series to be run in Hobart next month.
Romantic Moment was having her second start on Monday night and showed the benefit of a debut run in Launceston two weeks earlier.
With ace reinsman Ricky Duggan aboard, Romantic Moment made light of her second-row draw by working through the field and forging to the lead over a lap from home.
Once in front Duggan rated the filly superbly and when he called on her for the supreme effort in the home straight she responded well to hold out the fast-finishing Mon Soie with Iden Princess rattling home for third.
Belcher said Romantic Moment had shown him enough on the training track and in trials to suggest she was an above average filly.
