TALENTED six-year-old Our Sir Jeckyl remains the king of Tasmanian harness racing following another impressive win in Launceston.
Our Sir Jeckyl scored arguably one of his best wins when he powered home to defeat rising star Gedlee in the $10,000 Golden Mile over 1680m at The Tote Racing centre on Sunday night.
Gedlee was hailed a potential grand circuit prospect as a result of his rise through the classes culminating in his performance to finish just behind the placegetters in the Group 1 Tasmania Cup in December.
But at Gedlee’s two runs back from a short spell he has finished behind the more experienced Our Sir Jeckyl with last Sunday night’s margin only a neck.
Our Sir Jeckyl loves the Launceston circuit with most of his local wins on that circuit over the mile.
He has been beaten only once over the 1680-metre trip in Launceston and that was in the same race last year when he had no luck and flashed home to be beaten by a narrow margin.
Our Sir Jeckyl is the reigning Easter Cup titleholder and he is bang on target to defend that title on April 24.
Our Sir Jeckyl is part-owned by Jamie Cockshutt who says the six-year-old gelding is going better than ever.
“He’s a great horse on the Launceston rack and I think he’s going better than ever so we are looking forward to the Easter Cup next month,” Cockshutt said.
“As long as he isn’t handicapped out of the race (Easter Cup) he’ll be there. You would think he would get 10 metres based on what horses with similar form have copped in recent years,” he said.
