VICTORIAN three-year-old filly Blucolla Tigerpie continued the dominance of interstate invaders when she powered home to win the SEW Eurodrive Tasmanian oaks over 2579 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday night.

The filly came from well back in the field with a lap to go to score by three metres from another Victorian Rhodium Castle with local filly Klebnikova leis almost two metres astern.

Blucolla Tigerpie arrived in Tasmania with good credentials, having won four of her previous 10 attempts this preparation and with an overall record of six wins from 15 starts.

The filly is owned by Ian Stanley, Aliesha Stanley and Jordan Stanley and trained by Ian’s son Michael at bald Hills.

Trainer Stanley said the filly had answered every challenge put before her this time in and he believes she will be even better next season.

A solid pace was set by Klebnikova Leis (Nathan Ford) and after a lap the race favourite Madame Lily ((Robert Walters) was sent around the field to face the breeze while Rhodium Castle and Blucolla Tigerpie were content to settle back in the field in the one-out line.

Madame Lilly broke gait when being urged forward just over a lap from home and that disrupted the field but she regained her composure and driver Robert Walters sent her back up to race in the death.

But she was the first horse beaten when the leader kicked clear and looked to have the race in her keeping.

But when Stanley called on his filly for the supreme effort in the home straight the daughter of Union Guy (USA)-Victoria Street eventually gained the upper hand.

Rhodium Castle also was doing her best work at the finish and local filly Tisu Holly was a close-up fourth and probably should have finished closer to the winner had she been able to gain clear racing room in the back straight the last time.

The Victorian Oaks is her next mission and given the authority of this latest victory her prospect of snaring an Oaks double is well within her grasp.
