SMART middle distance performer Sour Pop continued on his winning way in Launceston last night with a dominant victory in a heat of the Mitsubishi Autumn Distance Medley over 600 metres at The TOTE Racing Centre.

The Russell Watts-trained dog scored an impressive win in Hobart last Thursday night over 599m but last night’s effort was even more impressive.

Sour Pop began fairly from box six but he managed good splits on his way to an almost five-length win over Dasher Dooley (1) with Eifella Jack (2) three lengths astern.

Watts is will test the water, so to speak, when he steps Sour Pop up to 720m at his next outing in the second round of heats of the distance series next Monday night.

At this latest outing Sour Pop stopped the clock at 35.32 seconds which was a fair effort but not as quick as the other heat winner Three Tradies, prepared by Leigh Wood.

Three Tradies is racing in top form and he ran the 600m in 35.10s on his way to defeating Decembrist by 3-1/2 lengths with Jonah Hex over six lengths astern.

Three Tradies is already proven over the longer trip so he is likely to be a warm favourite when he steps out over 720m next week.
