SOUTH AUSTRALIAN three-year-old gelding Moving Money notched the biggest win of his career when he staved off all challengers to take out the $90,000 Listed Betfair Tasmanian Guineas over 1600 metres in Launceston tonight (Wednesday).
Moving Money (Clare Lindop) raced outside of the leader Bionic Star to the home turn before forging clear and then held out the fast-finishing and luckless Barysh Quest to win by a head with the favourite Anelene a close-up third.
Moving Money is trained in partnership by Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas who had the gelded son of Artie chiller at his peak for the race.
“We came here coming off a win in a quality 1250-metre race at home (Adelaide) but he was still unknown at 1600m and that was our only concern,” Macdonald said.
“He’s run the distance right out tonight but only just,” he said.
While Moving Money showed great fight at the business end of the ace there also was a lot to like about the effort of the runner-up Barysh Quest that is now Tasmanian Derby bound.
Barysh Quest was partnered by Craig Newitt who was full of praise for the Gary White-trained gelding.
“I got into a bit of trouble about the 1000-metres and that’s where I wanted to get mobbing t secure a better position but things got a bit tight,” Newitt said.
“When we did get out and running we were just a bit too far off the eventual winner but I have no doubt that had my horse not been held up he would have won the race,” he said.
Anelene was game in defeat and she will be very had to beat in the fillies Aceland Stud Thousand Guineas over 1600m in Launceston on February 1.
