TALENTED three-year-old pacer Beautide delivered a firm message that he will be a force in all future feature races in his age group with an emphatic win in the SEW Eurodrive Tasmanian Guineas over 2090 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday night.
Beautide went into the race unbeaten from his three starts this season, a fact that warranted him being sent around the long odds-on favourite ($1.40) courtesy of a late plunge that reduced his odds significantly ($1.90 into $1.40).
The Barrie Rattray-trained gelding started from the outside of the front row and was engaged in a speed battle for the lead before driver Gareth Rattray eased to take a sit.
But when the speed slowed significantly he opted to have another crack for the lead and this time lit was successful.
However, those who took the short odds were on tenterhooks on the home turn when the back markers made their charges.
But Beautide was up to the challenge and dug deep over the concluding stages to score convincingly from Put Mback and Really Western.
Trainer Barrie Rattray was very pleased with the effort and is now toying with the idea of taking the gelding interstate for a tilt at the Victoria Derby in three weeks.
