Almost 60 percent of the dams represented in the Tasmania Premier Yearling Sale at Launceston on Saturday, January 8 were race winners including 11 ‘black type’ mares.
They include three Tasmanian Sires Stakes champions in Marlee Jayne, Mon Poppy Mary and Dame Raider, Laconic, winner of the Australian Pacing Gold 3YO Final, the WA Sires Stakes 3YO Final winner Beverley Button, Picketwithapin (Princess of Pace), Boys Toys (Belmont and Killarney Stud Bouquet), and the Belmont winners Sophie Ellen and El Jays Belle.
Furthermore, 46 percent of the 69 lots are out of winner producing mares. They have left 66 individual winners between them.
The headline act is the Comic Capers mare Marlee Jayne, a former Tasmanian Broodmare of the Year and dam of seven winners from eight foals. Her progeny include the classic winners Lourdes 1:51.4, Make A Memory, Dare We Dream and Colsta.
Denneice Bay, the dam of JR Mint colt (Lot 10), is one of only a handful of mares to leave three Tasmanian Sires Stakes Final winners in Quastor Centurion, Mon Poppy Mary and Johnny Applesead.
Another Torado Hanover mare, Shansue Mod, has a Topnotcher sister to the Dandy Patch winner Topnotch Dan and a half-sister to the Globe Derby winner Maldon Blaze.
Other proven producers with progeny in the sale include El Jays Belle, the dam of the Yearling Sales Classic winner Daisy Adele; Laconic, the mother of the Victoria Youthful Stakes winner Abbreviated); The Spider Woman (dam of multi classics placegetter Bonny Lena 1:56.8); Holly Harfield, the dam of former top South Australian juvenile Duomo; Jules Ticket (dam of Ticket Time $99,000); and Highview Goldie (dam of Karoola Town).
