Graduates of the annual Tasmanian yearling sale have enjoyed a healthy run of success both on the Island and the mainland down through the years.
The list of ‘black type’ performers sold at the sales is headed up by the Tasmanian Sires Stakes champions Karalta Crown ($128,351), Topnotch Dan ($101,011), Cat Bay ($83,004), Ima Miss Molly ($77,908), Ess Kay Precious ($65,433) and Ogrady ($59,770).
Make A Memory ($118,246) and Daisy Adele, who won the Tasmanian Yearling Sale Classic in 2008 and 2010 respectively, were also Tassie sale graduates.
Two of Tasmania’s current leading open class performers, Our Sir Jeckyl ($174,611) and the Danbury Park Cup winner Dodgermemate ($73,748), were sold as yearlings at the Launceston Showground.
Others include the brilliant but injury-plagued Gamblers Rustler, the recent Hobart winners Daytime Jerry, El Jays Modeena and three-year-old Chasing Pirates, and this season’s dual Launceston three-year-old winner Karalta Wizard.
Interestingly, there’s a full sister to Topnotch Dan and a Righteous Hanover half-sister to Dodgermemate in the 2011 Premier Yearling Sale.
The sale has attracted 69 entries and will be held at the Inveresk Showground, Launceston on Saturday, January 8, starting at 12 noon.
Catalogues will be available next week from the auctioneers Davidson Cameron Board & Simmons (phone 02 6884 8355) or Tasracing (03 6212 9333).
A DVD of the yearlings can be obtained from Tasracing after December 20.
