BEAUTY POINT harness trainer Rohan Hillier attributed King Of Bling’s latest win to mixture of competent placement and a masterful drive.

Hillier has been forced to carefully place the six-year-old gelding in races that are likely to be run to suit and the C4-C6 stakes race over 1680m looked an ideal choice.

But he also wanted to enhance the gelding’s winning chances by booking a novice driver and he had no hesitation in offering the drive to talented teenage reinsman Alex Ashwood.

King Of Bling showed blistering early speed to lead but when the second favourite Miami Rocket made a rush from the rear to vie for the lead Ashwood cleverly handed up to take the sit on the leader’s back.

But the winning move was when he eased out to face the breeze heading down the back straight to ensure he wasn’t caught in a zip-fastener pocket.

King Of Bling grabbed the bit and raced generously at the leader’s wheel and when Ashwood called on his charge for the supreme effort in the home straight the gelding responded magnificently.

King Of Bling went on to score from Rememberpreece with outsider Wingsofaneagle third, just in advance of Miami Rocket.
