YOUNG Tasmanian reinsman Joshua Duggan has been making an impact on Victorian tracks in recent months but he was back doing what he does best on home soil in Hobart last Sunday night.

Duggan, who has been working with the Chris Alford stable for almost a year, took a week off his busy schedule in Victoria to return home to visit family and friends but he also took a few drives at Sunday night’s meeting.

He was successful aboard the Phillip Ford-trained Boozy Rouge to register his first win for that trainer.

“It’s great to be back home visiting family and friends and getting a winner here in Hobart was a bonus,” Duggan said.

“Everything is going really well at Chris Alford’s stable and I’m actually looking forward to getting back to work,” he said.

Duggan is the son of multiple Tasmanian premiership-winning reinsman Ricky Duggan.

He embarked on his interstate sojourn with the hope of establishing himself as one of the top drivers in Victoria and while he has only driven six winners on provincial tracks he has quickly earned a reputation as a rising star in the sulky.

Duggan, 17, said Boozy Rouge was a handy horse that showed a loft of fight to win.

“Once we got the front he settled well and then he fought off all challengers in the home straight. It was a strong win,” he said.

Duggan returned to Victoria today (Monday) and is expecting to drive at provincial meetings later in the week. He has yet to acquire his licence to drive on Victoria’s metropolitan tracks.
