WHILE this season’s star two-year-old gelding Quastor Centurion will definitely travel to Melbourne to contest a semi-final of the Breeders Crown series next month, his female counterpart Benediction is not a certain starter.
Quastor Centurion made it eight wins in succession in a Breeders Crown heat in Launceston last Sunday, after which connections confirmed the unbeaten youngster will line up in a Breeders Crown heat at Tabcorp Park, Melton, on August 13.
Benediction won the fillies’ Breeders Crown heat last Sunday night but her trainer Barrie Rattray said she is no certainty to head across Bass Strait.
“I’m still not sure about taking this filly across the water,” Rattray said.
“Her times have been credible and she is feeling good in herself but I will wait another week.”
“She’ll race in Hobart on Sunday night and how she goes in that race and how she recovers will determine whether she tackles the Breeders Crown semi-final,” Rattray said.
Benediction has won five and been placed second from her eight starts for stakes closing in on $50,000.
She won the Betfair Sweepstakes final and the Evicus Stakes (sires stakes) final to claim the honour of Tasmania’s best two-year-old filly.
