DELORAINE trainer Terry Roles wasn’t quite sure which of his two runners would win the Total Care International 3YO & Upwards Maiden at Devonport on Sunday but the final outcome was a more than satisfactory result.
Roles quinellaed the race with Digger’s Sunrise (Audrey Guillemin) and Benefit Of Doubt (Mick Guthrie).
Digger’s Sunrise showed good speed to lead while Benefit Of Doubt raced in second sport and within striking distance throughout.
Benefit Of Doubt eased off his stable mate’s heels turning for home and at one stage in the home straight looked as if he would emerge triumphant but Guillemin’s mount dug deep and staved off all challenges to score by a head with Crazy Chester emerging from the rear to finish third and only a neck astern.
Roles said he expects both of his horses to win races but he was particularly pleased that Digger’s Sunrise had finally shrugged off her maiden status.
