THE last full night meeting of the season at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston last night (Thursday) was marred by a tragic fall in the open handicap.
Talented galloper Trysty shattered his off-side foreleg during the race that subsequently sent jockey Justin Hamer crashing to the turf.
Unfortunately Trysty ha to be euthanized and Hamer was taken to hospital with abrasions and complaining of back pain and numbness in his left leg.
Trysty was trained at Spreyton by Barry Campbell and owned by Charlie and Wendy Langmaid who were understandably extremely upset after the ace.
“He was such a great horse to us and he deserved a better end,” Langmaid said.
Hamer had ridden a winner earlier in the night (Filjon in the 2YO Maiden) and was just getting back into form.
Further updates on Hamer’s condition will be posted on this website over the Easter break.
