TOP interstate jockey Michael Rodd gave talented Tasmanian-owned and trained two-year-old Triple Asset a glowing report after he partnered her to an effortless all-the-way win in the $50,000 Shaw Magic Millions Classic at Mowbray yesterday.

Rodd declared to connections the filly would hold her own in Melbourne and suggested to trainer John Keys that he should consider sending her interstate before the end of the season.

Triple Asset was sent around a long odds-on favourite ($1.50) but she never gave her backers any cause for concern as Rodd had her travelling sweetly in the lead to the home turn and when he released the reigns slightly she bounded clear and went on to defeat stablemates Buzzing Along and Cambalara by just over three lengths.

It was an emotional John Keys who described the win as a “relief”.

“It’s not easy having an odds-on favourite going into a feature raced – it’s new territory for me,” Keys said.

Triple Asset (Nadeem-Caralowe) is a graduate of the 2010 Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale and Keys attempted to buy her half-sister (Churchill Downs) at this week’s Yearling Sale but he was outbid by Victorian trainer Mark Riley who paid $62,000 for the Armidale Stud-bred filly.
