TOP quality Victorian sprinter Doubtful Jack made an impressive return to racing with an emphatic win in the $90,000 Listed thetote.com.au Stakes over 1200m in Launceston tonight (Thursday).
The Peter Moody-trained gelding was having his first start since finishing well down the track in he Epsom Handicap at Randwick in October last year.
But with regular rider Luke Nolan aboard the gelded son of Not A Single Doubt made it look easy as he led a quality field and then fended off serious challengers with consummate ease on his way to a comfortable win over stablemates Too Many Reds and Conquering.
Nolan said his charge was never fully tested in the run and while he was mindful that his charge was first-up from a lengthy spell he never had cause for alarm.
“He travelled well for me and all I had to do was make sure he kept it together and in the end it was a fairly comfortable win,” Nolan said.
“I’m not sure what Pete (Moody) has fir him next but I know there’s another Tassie race he’s got in mind,” he said.
The race is more than likely the weight-for-age Thomas Lyons to be run over 1400 metres on Hobart Cup day on February 13.
