DELORAINE trainer Terry Roles is committed to giving his promising three-year-old Alesto Star time to mature before aiming him at any raced beyond 1600 metres.
Alesto Star broke his maiden status in a 1400-metre maiden at Tattersall’s Park on Sunday for what was a courageous victory.
With Craig Newitt in the saddle the gelded son of Telesto-Almecca led the full field of 14 to the home turn where he was challenged a clearly headed in the straight by Lovorno.
But under strong hands and heels riding by three-year-old fought back to hit the line a neck clear of Lovorno with Live To Win just under a length away third.
“This horse has stayer written all over him and hopefully we can look forward to targeting some of the better staying races next season,” Roles said.
