The Week That Was

Just Browsing set the standard of racing for the week at a high level on Monday night in Launceston sprinting to a sensational victory in the Division 1 Final of the J.G. Nelson Cup.

The Gary Fahey-trained star (pictured) bounced back from her first loss at the track to scorch over the 515-metre trip in a sizzling time of  29.94 seconds, turning the tables on Heat winner Apollo Blue.

Buckle Up Rose followed up her dazzling effort in winning the Div 2 Final with a blistering all the way win in her Heat of the  Sprint Championship on Thursday night.

Lynden Nichols celebrated his Division 3 Cup victory with Jughead Jones by finishing the night with a winning treble.

Stop Line scored an amazing victory at Devonport on Tuesday for Jillian Stamford running 25.62 seconds to score its first win in three starts by 9.75 lengths.

Kevin McConnon’s Vrontios showed he is the one to beat in the State with a powerhouse display in his eight-length 42.56 second victory while Two Bills made a triumphant return to Tasmania running down tearaway leader Amo Bailer in the third Heat of the Sprint Title recorded 29.78 seconds.

Launceston (Monday)

Lily Lola – Backed in from $7 into $6 before spreadeagling the field in the first race on the card for Allan Clark, winning by 9.75 lengths in 30.06 seconds.

South Serpent  – The Lynden Nichols performer was backed from $1.8o  into $1.65 before winning by 8-lengths in 30.00 seconds flat, one of Lynden’s three winners for the night.

Devonport (Tuesday)

Domasco – Defied an alarming betting drift from $18 out to $26 to start the despised outsider of the field for Mick Sheriff to score its maiden win by 4.5 lengths.

Kreuzberg – Amazingly opened up at $9.50 before starting at $7.50 and notching up its third win in a row in a fashion that says more wins are on the way.

Launceston  (Thursday)

Wild Strike – Started a successful night for Butch Deverell despite drifting from $2.20 to $2.60, leading all the way to score by three lengths.

Two Bills – The former Tasmanian Derby and Gold Cup winner was the medium of heavy support tumbling in from $1.90 to a $1.65 before storming home to cut down Amo Bailer in the home stretch.

The Finals of the State Distance and Sprint Titles will be decided next Thursday night in Launceston after a sensational Heat night of racing.

Vrontios looks to have a near stranglehold on the Distance Title after his eight-length victory tonight in a personal best time of 42.56 seconds.
