Tasmania’s Greyhound Adoption Program co-ordinator Susan Gittus will pull on her trainer’s cap at tonight’s Launceston Greyhound Racing Club meeting.

The well-respected self-confessed greyhound ‘tragic’ has four chasers engaged on the 10-event card all racing over the 278-metre trip.

“The Fernando Bale – Pacha Queen breed is well suited to the sprint trip early in their careers and in time when they build up a little stronger we will look at getting them over more ground but for now I’m very happy with the way they are going,” said Susan.

Surrender is unbeaten on the track over the 278 metres winning both her outings impressively, she has broken 5 seconds for the first split on both occasions with 4.92 seconds her best with an overall time of 16.12 seconds.”

The Allan Clark prepared in-form sprinter Lucy’s Locket matched Surrender’s best time last week proving too slippery for Tah Bob and will start outside Surrender in box seven.

“There is no risk Lucy’s Locket will be the testing material but Surrender has drawn six and her brilliance exiting the boxes will give her a great chance to bring up three straight over the Launceston 278-metres,” said the Mangalore mentor.

“Her litter-mate Frunesco has drawn the pink in the following event race three and she is ideally drawn in the pink as she is only a little 23.5 kg bitch and doesn’t like getting buffeted around too much, so with a first split of 4.98 seconds and a smart 16.19 second time to her name she should be right in the finish.”

A third litter-mate Undermine flew to an early lead in Hobart on Thursday and duly saluted running 19.81 seconds to win by 1.75 lengths over the well supported Shanlyn Dolly.

“Undermine has taken a while to break through. He’s not quite as quick early as his sisters yet he is stronger at the finish, he needs 20 or 30-metres to balance up. If he can get that from box two he will be in with a hope,” said Susan with fingers crossed.

“We have Purdie Shuffle in race nine, she is a little older, in fact, she is not far off taking up a regular spot on the couch in front of the telly but she has won two of her last three starts and while she is enjoying racing and stays sound I’m happy for her to keep going.”
