WITH only six weeks to go to the heats of the Wrest Point Hobart Thousand, Tasmania’s only Group One race, all the top class greyhounds are vying for the form that will enable them to get a start in the big one.
Damek (R6) certainly looms as our best chance against the mainland invasion and tonight at Elwick he will be looking for win number twenty from twenty one starts in Tasmania which is just phenomenal and from the red tonight will anchor most punters first leg of the double and second leg of the quadrella.
Sultan’s Swing didn’t get a chance to challenge him last week thanks to an early check while Regent Typhoon continues to improve and both should be taken in the multiples.
Samurai Kid (R7) should get back to the winners list after a terrific run for third in the Minister’s Gift Final last week.
Jumping from the red tonight this son of Bond should have room to settle and given any luck will be too strong in the straight.
His main opposition will come from Daegan, Shanlyn Sparky and the returning St Pierre in what is a terrific grade three field.
Capetown Gem (R10) looks to be an each way special while kennelmate Capetown Kid (R8) is still immature but has a big motor and is worth following.
Best Bets: R1 # 2 Break Even R6 # 1 Damek, R7 # 1 Samurai Kid.
Best E/W: R1 # 6 Jenmar Status, R2 # 2 Luke’s A Missile, R9 # 4 Wild Weekend
