STAR Tasmanian greyhound Damek reached another milestone in his short but illustrious career when he broke the Hobart track record last Thursday night.
Damek sizzled over the Tattersall’s Park 461-metre circuit in 25.85 to better the previous best of 25.86 set twice by Tenacious Ted last year.
Damek holds the 515-metre record at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston that he set in April this year.
He has gone close to Lilli Pilli Lad’s record at Devonport and he will have another crack at bettering that on Tuesday (October 19) but it is a mark that has eluded the best to grace the Devonport Showground circuit since Lilli Pilli Lad set the mark in July 2000.
Damek has won 17 of his 18 starts in Tasmania with his only defeat at the hands of Tombstone Jack in the state final of the National Sprint Championship in August.
Connections have resisted the temptation to return to Victoria after the dog suffered injuries both times he ventured onto tracks interstate.
Damek will stay in Tasmania and be aimed at the Group 1 Hobart Thousand.
