WHEN your litter brother has a potential champion tag it usually takes nothing less than a brilliant performance to grab the attention of greyhound racing pundits and punters.
Daegan notched his sixth win from 17 starts in Hobart last night but because he is a brother of star performer Damek his efforts rarely make news.
But this latest outing suggests the lesser-known sibling is starting to develop and while he will never reach the heights of Damek he should prove to be a great money spinner for his owners and trainer.
Daegan (Big Daddy Cool-World’s Finest), prepared at Invermay by Eileen Thomas, won his juvenile in Hobart at his third race start and then won four of his next six starts.
But his form waned and he was given a break.
Any owner would be pleased to have a dog that had won six and been placed three times from 17 starts for about $8500 in prize money.
Another member of the litter is Decembrist and he has done even better on the track with 12 wins and as many minor placings from 33 starts of which the past four have been in Melbourne where he has won and been placed twice in the care of Rod Douglas.
The latest was a second to What Size at Sandown last Thursday night over 515 metres, coming from well back to fall short by just over three lengths.
Decembrist’s win was at The Meadows at only his second look at the track two weeks ago.
Damek has been to Melbourne for a second at Sandown at his first interstate attempt but at his only other outing he suffered an injury that forced him off the scene for over two months.
However he resumed racing in Tasmania with an effortless win at Devonport on July 20 and a week later won repeated the dose to keep his unbeaten record from nine starts in Tasmania intact.
