CHICKO ROLL made a welcome return to the winner’s circle in Hobart last week with a game victory in a strong grade four event over 461 metres.
Chicko Roll had been struggling to sneak a place but with an unhindered run she was able to outgun her rivals to score by almost a length from triple dead-heaters Kialdu Grace, Claira’s Gem and Pneumonia Alley.
She was clearly headed by Claira’s Gem turning for home but Chicko Roll refused to wilt and came again to score arguably her best win this time in.
The Susan Gittus-trained bitch made a miraculous return to racing in March with a brilliant win in Hobart that was her first race start since suffering what was thought to be a career-ending injury.
She continued to race well, winning at her two subsequent outings but then the wheels fell off and she struggled to make an impact.
While it was great to see the bitch back winning, the big interest was in the triple dead-heat for second.
Tasmanian greyhound guru and historian Greg Fahey was scrambling through his records last Thursday night to determine when or if another triple dead-heat fort second has occurred in the state.
Once the records have been fastidiously searched we’ll report the outcome in an upcoming issue of NGF.
