STAR Tasmanian greyhound Damek resumed from injury with an impressive win at Devonport on Tuesday to keep his unbeaten record from eight starts in Tasmania intact.
The Eileen Thomas-trained dog jumped straight to the front from box six and clocked outstanding sectionals on his way a 9-1/4 length victory over Kialdu Donna with Till Buster a length away third.
Damek had not started since suffering an injury at The Meadows in Melbourne in May in which he finished last in a heat of a special grade five series.
The dog’s owner Peter Phillips has taken no risks with the pup that holds the 515 metre track record in Launceston of 29.40 that he set in winning the LGRC Breeders Classic final in April.
At Devonpoort on Tuesday he clocked splits of 7.98 seconds and12.72s for an overall time of 25.50s that is outside his personal best on the track of 25.23 that he notched at his only other try on the course.
That run was the closest any dog has come to breaking Lilli Pilli Lad’s 452m track record of 25.15s set in July 2000.
