WELL bred pup Regent Shiraz broke through for an overdue win when she powered home to take out the The Mercury Juvenile at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last night.
Regent Shiraz began well from box five and despite being clearly headed by the well=backed El James she refused to give in and regained the lead turning for home and went on to score comfortably from Arizona King and the fast-finishing Ella Alva.
The Debbie Cannan-trained bitch by dominant sire Where’s Pedro from the top-producing broodbitch Oxley Belle had not been placed from nine previous attempts.
But she would only need to make slight improvement to add more wins in the coming weeks.
Arizona King was having only his third start and showed improvement to fill a place while Ella Alva made up good ground from well back to grab third.
Arizona King is a recent arrival at Mick Stringer’s Magra kennels while Ella Alva is prepared at Richmond by talented young trainer Nick Howard.
