WINNING the Bob Brown Memorial at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last night was some consolation for the connections of smart dog Pedro Pronto.

Pedro Pronto narrowly missed a berth in the Group 1 Hobart Thousand but he made every post a winner in the race that is considered the Thousand consolation.

The race carries a winner’s stake of over $3000 and is named in honour of the late Bob Brown who was regarded as one of the doyens of Tasmanian greyhound racing.

One of Brown’s sons, Ross Brown, made the presentation to trainer Robert Grubb.

“Winning the Bob Brown Memorial is special to me because I knew the man well and he was an industry icon,” Grubb said.

Pedro Pronto showed an abundance of speed from box five and had no trouble fending off High Choice that was almost a length astern with the favourite Accounts 1-1/4 lengths away third.

Pedro Pronto took his record to 18 wins from 41 starts with his 12 minor placings helping his career stake earnings to almost $30,000.
