In Brief

  • Trainer amazed at mare's starting price.
  • Heaven's Delight has gone to new level this time in.
  • Stable snares four winners at past three meetings.

Talented mare Heaven’s Delight delivered another superb performance to make it consecutive wins in Launceston on Wednesday night.

The Gary White-trained mare won a 0-60 handicap in Launceston two weeks ago, but this latest effort was clearly a career-best.

Despite having such good form going into this latest assignment, the mare drifted in the betting and got out to as much as $11 before starting at $10.

“I can’t believe the price they bet about this mare but that just made it better for those who kept the faith,” White said.

Rider Bulent Muhcu had the mare settled midfield but cluttered up on the rail and entering the home straight it looked for a moment that she might struggle to gain a clear run.

But when Muhcu eased her three-wide she chased down the leader and went on to win comfortably.

“The mare has gone to a new level this time in and while I was a bit anxious with her stuck on the rails, Bulent eventually got her clear and she did the rest,” White said.

“I haven’t selected any particular races for this mare but while she’s racing in this sort of form, she is going to be competitive in whatever she tackles.”

Heaven’s Delight has won four of her 21 starts for about $90,000 in sakes but those statistics are bound to improve if she continues to produce her present form.

White’s stable has had a good run of late with Heaven’s Delight’s win the stable’s fourth in the space of three meetings.

His other two recent winners Paion and Remigny were impressive and Paion steps out again next Wednesday night.
