LAST season’s Tasmanian Derby winner Geegees Blackflash is set to resume racing in an open handicap over 1200 metes under lights in Launceston in a fortnight.

Geegees Blackflash was spelled after he won the Derby in January, defeating the Gai Waterhouse-trained Kinnersley.

He was expected to return to racing in July but he bled during a trackwork gallop and was subsequently stood down from racing for three months.

His trainer John Luttrell gave the gelding plenty of time to recover and the horse looked good in wining a trial on the Derwent track at Tattersall’s Park on Tuesday.

With Shuji Amano in the saddle he covered the 900 metres in 59.47 seconds to score narrowly but under a hold from Elle Of Westerly.
