Rod Walker has declared in form sprinter Black Taxi spot on for his Hobart assignment tonight as he looks towards next week’s heats of the Ladbrokes sponsored Group 1 Hobart Thousand.

Black Taxi, a son of 2012 Hobart Thousand runner-up Rewind, heads into tonight’s Hobart card in sublime form, his past six outings resulting in three wins and as many seconds.

“He’s not the fastest dog going around but by god he’s honest,” said Walker.

“The best thing about him is that he’s getting better all the time … that’s how you’re meant to train them, isn’t it?”

Black Taxi takes his place in race seven in Hobart tonight from box one, fresh off a stylish 25.74 Devonport victory last week.

Winner at 11 of his 40 career starts, Walker said that his consistent chaser has more than earned his chance in next week’s Hobart Thousand heats.

“He can probably run a tick under 26 at Hobart … he’s not the best box dog but he really flies when he gets going,” explained Walker.

“He’s 100 percent fit and healthy going into Thursday night and even though I’d rather him drawn out in box eight he’ll handle the red as well. He should be hard to beat. As I said he’s getting better which is what you want to see.”

Meanwhile, earlier on tonight’s program Walker debuts littermates David Moss (box six) and Billie Moss (box seven) in races one and three respectively over the 340 metre scamper.

“They are having their first starts so the experience will do them the world of good,” Walker added.

“Billie Moss is showing more early speed than her brother David Moss at the moment but going to the races for the first time against dogs that have had race experience is a big ask.

“If Billie Moss runs up to her trials I expect she’ll give a good sight … if she comes out.

“But you know what happens … the best way of stopping them is by putting your money on. They are both heading in the right direction.”
