LOCAL trainer Tammy Mollross has had six-year-old gelding Exeter Spirit for only a month before contesting the 1400 metre Class One Handicap at Tattersall’s Park on Wednesday but believes she has a handy little horse.

Exeter Spirit, making his Tasmanian debut settled midfield before bursting through on the rails at the 100 metre mark with a perfectly timed run from young apprentice Ronan Keogh to edge out Hot Sybil by almost two lengths with race favourite Larmar Hall a close third.

“I didn’t really know too much about him” Mollross said.

“His owner Michael Hurst sent him over looking for wet tracks and we certainly got that this week” she said.

The son of Invincible Spirit has a good record on heavy surfaces winning at Colac three starts ago over the mile.
