With the benefit of box one, Outlaw Teddy will look to turn the tables on Lenard’s Boy when the pair clash in the fourth event in Devonport this afternoon.
Last Thursday night in Hobart, the pair faced off over 599 metres, with Lenard’s Boy securing a three length victory over Outlaw Teddy in a career best 34.47.
Today in Devonport, bookmakers have installed the pair at $2.70 equal favourites for their 580 metre stoush, due to get underway at 13:27 local time.
Both chasers bring terrific form into the race.
The Sam Page-trained Lenard’s Boy has been a model of consistency throughout his career, winning 19 of his 66 starts, seven of those at the Devonport circuit.
And while the son of Zulu Zeus is well versed at the middle distance caper, his main opponent for this afternoon’s assignment, Outlaw Teddy, is at the other end of the spectrum, last week’s Hobart hit-out his first over the additional journey.
A 16-time winner for Anthony Bullock, Outlaw Teddy, a son of Kinloch Brae, should relish box one for today’s race, expected to take up the running from the inside draw.
Before last week’s runner-up performance to Lenard’s Boy, Outlaw Teddy had been mixing it in the company of Stop Line, Atley Quick and Be Like Bill, giving further rise to his claims today.
The pair sit atop of betting ahead of well performed chaser Sorry Bill (box 2) and Willy Bound (box 3), both making their Devonport 580m debuts.
Willy Bound, in the money at 20 of his 25 starts for trainer Robin Grubb, gives the indication the rise in trip for today’s race will suit him down to the ground, the son of Magic Sprite getting to the line well in recent engagements.
Later on in today’s program one of the better chances of the meeting is in race eight where the Allan Clark-trained Lady Danger steps out over 452 metres.
A fast last start Launceston winner over 278 metres in 16.20, the daughter of Kayda Shae has built up an imposing record and on the strength of her recent performances, has the speed to offset box six at around the $2.70 mark.
