In Brief

  • Four wins for Yole stable.
  • Trainer well on track for a triple-figure season.
  • Can he break his season record?

Tasmania’s leading trainer Ben Yole dominated Friday night’s harness meeting in Launceston where he prepared four of the seven winners.

My Ultimate Major was the first runner from his stable to get on the board when he scored in the Bevan Lee’s Butchery Stakes.

The gelded son of Art Major enjoyed a lovely run on the back of the leader before working into the clear at the top of the home straight to go on and record the pacers first win since June by 1.6 metres.

“He just dropped back below that 50 rating class, which is a lot different to racing 53 to 55 rated horses,” said trainer Ben Yole after the win who was full of praise for driver Sam Gangell.

“She drove him a treat by getting in behind the leader which won her the race,” said Yole.

Eight-year-old gelding Frostyflyer recorded back-to-back wins when scoring by 13.7 metres in the Ladbrokes Stakes.

“He went terrific through the Golden Apple series and he had just dropped back into his right class again, “explained Yole about the pacers fourth win of the season.

Yole’s last two winners of the night were both courtesy of two brilliant drives.

Gareth Rattray demonstrated his talents once again when he scored on Give Me The Night in the Tassie Wash Pace after being back second last at the 300-metre mark.

“It was a top drive by Gareth that’s why he is one of the best,” said the Sidmouth based trainer.

“That’s how you have got to drive the horse, for a bit of luck and that’s exactly how he drove him,” he added about the nine-year-old gelding’s 14th career win.

Yole’s last win came courtesy of two-time King Island Cup winning driver Adrian Collins who showed plenty of initiative when he caught the leaders napping at the 600-metre mark to win the Perth Demons Cricket Club Stakes aboard Island Rocknroll (pictured).

“The King Island Kid outdrove them,” laughed Yole.

“She just loves the mile and I said to him I thought she could win, you will just have to launch her and he did that to absolute perfection,” said the trainer about the 6.4-metre win.

Yole has trained 67 winners in Tasmania for the season and looks set to go very close to his state record of 182 wins that he set last season.
