LIGHTLY raced four-year-old Towindough caused a boilover when he won the opening race on the 10-event card at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday.

The John Blacker-trained gelding produced a powerful finish coming from beyond midfield at the halfway mark to score comfortably from Herald Syn and Saffron with Bamaedge a close-up fourth.

Towindough (Tobougg-Wiltiko) was resuming from a four-month spell. He had two starts prior to being spelled and both were well below par efforts.

“I reckon this horse has staying qualities and while he has done nothing at home on the training track to suggest he would win this today I have been very pleased with how he has tackled his work this time in,” Blacker said.

Jockey Remi Tremsal said the gelding raced greenly but showed great promise.

“This horse still has a lot to learn but to win despite doing a lot of things wrong is a great result,” Tremsal said.

“He gave me the impression he might even appreciate more ground,” he said.

Towindough is raced Brendan Ellis and his E-thoroughbred syndicate along with John Blacker and the Estate of the late Maree Blacker.
