Tasmania’s thoroughbred industry will celebrate its high achievers for season 2009-10 at a gala function at Tattersall’s Park Elwick on August 20.

Last season’s premiership winners will receive their prizes for winning in their respective categories with Brendon McCoull talking out his 11th jockeys title, David and Scott Brunton winning their first title as a partnership and Irishman Ronan Keogh will take to the stage to accept his prize for being the top apprentice.

The breeding awards are always well received and this year’s presentation is sure to live up to expectations.

The voting for last season’s horse awards would have been keen in the two-year-old category with Strike The Tiger and Socks likely to battle it out for top honour.

The three-year-old title should go to Tasmanian Derby winner Gee Gees Blackflash. Prepared by John Luttrell and owned by Paul and Elizabeth Geard, although Obstinado and Too Many Reds should also poll well.

Tasbreeders has sponsored an additional award in this category with the winner to be announced on the night.

The horse of the year title looks a match between Life To The Full and I’m A Hussey, both prepared by premiership-winning trainers David and Scott Brunton.

Last season’s leading owner award should go to Paul and Elizabeth Geard as they had multiple winners on all tracks.

The Tasmanian Racing Hall of Fame inductions are always a feature of the night and this year should be no exception.

The TRHOF selection panel chose to induct one jockey, trainer and horse, two associates and a legend.

Table and individual bookings are still open at $100 per head including food and beverage. Contact the Tasmanian racing Club on 0362 729492 or by email at admin@tasracingclub.com.au.
