In Brief

  • Hobart Cup winner gets 3kg penalty.
  • Home By Midnight to carry top weight of 59kg in Ladbrokes Launceston Cup.
  • Most of the Launceston Cup field to carry minimum of 54kg.

Ladbrokes Hobart Cup winner Toorak Affair has been hit with a three-kilogram penalty for next week’s Ladbrokes Launceston Cup.

Toorak Affair carried the minimum weight of 54kg in the Hobart Cup, but the victory shot her rating up from 92 to 101 to be equal with former New Zealand stayer Home by Midnight that will carry top weight of 59kg in the Launceston Cup, and if he accepts for the race tomorrow, which appears likely, weights cannot rise.

Being a mare gives Toorak Affair a two-kilogram allowance, which means she has been handicapped to carry 57kg next Wednesday.

The added impost could sway bookmakers to lengthen her opening price from $3.00, but her trainer Michael Trinder is not too fussed about the weight penalty.

New South Wales pair Taikomochi and Morton’s Fork will carry 58.5kg and 57.5kg respectively and Exoteric is handicapped to carry 1 kilogram more than Hobart with 55.5kg and all other runners are on the minimum of 54kg.
