TASMANIAN trainer Gary White has enjoyed success with Lake Crescent in Victoria in recent weeks so he is hoping that success rubs off on two more of his stable tenants at Flemington on Saturday.
White will saddle up his promising two-year-old filly Gathering Gold in the $75,000 Carbine Club Handicap over 1000 metres and his talented sprinter Twenty Grand will tackle the $150,000 Victorian Sprint Series final over 1200 metres.
“Gathering Gold showed enough during her first preparation to suggest she has above average ability and her work leading up to Saturday’s raced has been brilliant,” White said.
“Twenty Grand has been in Victoria a while and his last start effort was excellent despite finishing well down the track.”
“He was bailed up on the rails with nowhere to go and went to the line under a hold but we’re hoping for more luck on Saturday,” he said.
Twenty Grand won the weight-for-age thetote.com.au Stakes in Launceston towards the end of his last preparation and this will be his third run this time in.
Gathering Gold has had only three starts comprising a debut second in Launceston followed by a decisive win in Hobart before finishing a courageous third in the $150,000 Gold Sovereign Stakes at the TOTE Racing Centre in February behind Strike The Tiger and NSW filly Cuddles For Naara.
“Gathering Gold won two barrier trials in Hobart before heading to Victoria and while she will probably be at big odds on Saturday I expect her to be very competitive,” White said.
