Launceston Update – Thursday 1 July 2010

Despite persistent rain over the past few days, the track is expected to be no worse than a slow 7 for Thursday’s nine-race meeting at Mowbray.

Track manager Murray Pyke said the track had held up well despite the fact that it had been raining on and off since Tuesday morning.

Late mail for the meeting –

FABULOUSLY FAKE (Race 1 No. 9):  Returning after a short break and had solid form in better  quality races over the summer carnival, including a fourth to Rose Of Scotland in the Magic Millions Classic. Been placed on a heavy track at Spreyton so the conditions won’t be a problem.

NORTH LAD (Race 4 No. 3): Former Victorian making his debut for new trainer John Blacker. Placed at six of his 10 starts when prepared by Dean Lawson and has shown that he can handle  both slow and heavy going. Beat handy sprinter Loroupe in a recent barrier trial.

SIR LUGANO (Race 6 No. 7): Has more ability than his one win from 18 starts might suggest. Placed twice on slow tracks and, along with Tribute, was the best of the run-on horses in the race won by Westella Magic at Elwick on Sunday. Will be good odds.

MR ISAAC (Race 7 No. 1): Having his first start since the Hobart Cup but excels while fresh, having won two of his three first-up runs. Also excels in the wet, having won twice on heavy going. Looks well placed with the 2kg claim for Victorian apprentice Chris Pace.

End.
