BRIGHTON trainer Gary White predicts a bright future for Chikoni following the lightly raced three-year-old gelding’s maiden win at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday.
Chikoni (Ladoni-High Chicawar) came from well back in the field to score a convincing win over King Of Pleasure and Gleaming in a 3YO + Maiden over 1400 metres.
“To be honest I would have been happy had he not filled a place just as long as he was running on well at the end,” White said.
“So a win is a bonus because he’s still immature and needs more time to mature,” he said.
Chikoni was well ridden by Stephen Maskiell who had to adopt daring tactics to get the end result.
“I was going to keep running into dead ends where we were so I had to take him wide which stopped his momentum but he finished the race off well,” Maskiell said.
White said he would consider the horse’s options over the next few days but he was leaning towards giving the grey gelding a spell.
Chikoni is owned and raced by David and Louise Adams who have over a dozen horses with White’s stable.
