STAR Tasmanian two-year-old gelding Socks confirmed his status as the state’s best juvenile when he defied a tough run to win the $50,000 Launceston Mitsubishi Sires Produce Stakes over 1400m at the TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston last night.

Socks went into the race undefeated from three starts and kept his unbeaten record intact.

The Keep The Faith gelding was never better than three-wide for the entire journey but he defied the arduous task to hit the line well clear of Magnetosphere with the gallant Clan McLeod a close-up third.

The George Blacker-trained gelding was handled superbly by “The Iceman” Kelvin Sanderson who elected to allow his charge to sit three-wide with cover for the first half of the journey before urging him forward near the 500-metre peg.

He hit the front at the top of the straight and when Sanderson called on his charge for the supreme effort he responded magnificently over the concluding stages.
