Last week, unfortunately, Moonlite Bay was narrowly defeated at his Victorian debut, after working forward to take up the lead he was run down late by the short price favourite Betternbetter who enjoyed a soft run along the pegs.
There are many horses with Tasmanian interest racing in Victoria over the next few days including a runner at Bendigo tonight.
Bendigo – Monday
Race 4 Horse 9 Mascott
Is a five-year-old gelding who resumes from a spell tonight at Lords Raceway Bendigo. He is owned by a syndicate of mainly first-time owners formed by the Tasmanian Trotting Club. Mascott faces a 10-metre handicap in the 2150 metre standing start event where he will be driven by his trainer Kate Hargreaves.
Terang – Tuesday
Race 6 Horse 5 Suave Taj
Has lost his Tasmanian connection in the way of his Tasmanian trainer and ownership, but Tasmanian Trotting fans will be able to get a guide to how our best trotters can measure up at his first start back in Victoria. The eight-year-old gelding only had two starts in Tasmania including the $10,000 Tasmanian Trotting Cup two starts ago.
Ballarat – Wednesday
Race 5 Horse 8 Really Campbell
Is the second emergency for his race on Wednesday afternoon. The Tasmanian bred pacer is still owned in Tasmania and is trained by former Tasmanian Justin Campbell. The four-year-old gelding is yet to win in eight career starts but has been runner up in each of his last three efforts.
Race 8 Horse 1 Boltnmach (photo)
Has been out of the winner’s stall since July 2018 but the Justin Campbell-trained and driven pacer has won 11 of his 131 starts to date. The Tasmanian bred pacer was placed at Melton three starts ago before having poor draws to contend with at his next two outings.
Shepparton – Wednesday
Race 6 Horse 8 Blingittothemax
Is raced by Mick Maxfield and the gelded son of Art Major will be chasing his fifth win of the season on Wednesday night. Blingittothemax has been placed in three of his last five outings, and he has a second-row draw to contend with over the 1690 metre trip where Josh Aiken has been booked to drive.
While there are plenty of horses going around, there will be plenty of Tasmanian ex-pat trainers and drivers doing battle, and we wish them all the best.
