In Brief
- Excellent week for Sprint Gordon.
- Finishing line arrives at just the right time.
- Running double for Brendan Pursell.
Talented chaser Sprint Gordon continued the Tasmanian success at Sandown Park on Thursday night taking out a Grade 5 Final over 515m.
The Sandown greyhound track is within a few kilometres of the thoroughbred circuit where Shot of Irish, formerly trained by Scott Brunton was an impressive winner last Saturday.
Sprint Gordon is trained in Tasmania by Brighton-based Blake Pursell who opted to send a small team across to Victoria to race with his father Brendan due to the stoppage of racing in his home state.
The son of Spring Gun x Champagne Girl has been a winning machine in Tasmania, recording eight wins from his last 10 starts in the state and that form saw him sent out a $2.70 chance when running second at his first Victorian appearance, also at Sandown Park, last Sunday.
Jumping from the seven box, Sprint Gordon was rated a $9.90 chance Thursday night but always threatened to be in the finish after avoiding some early trouble on the first corner.
Dashing to the front on the home turn, the winning post came at just the right time scoring by the barest of margins from the fast finishing One Night Only ($13.00).
The result was the second half of a race-to-race double for Brendan Pursell who scored in the previous race with Mid Life Crisis at $15.00.
Sprint Gordon’s career record now sits at a hugely impressive 11 wins from 23 starts with nine minor placings for almost $30,000 in prizemoney.
