Owners and trainers have begun inspections in advance of the Tasmanian Magic Millions Select Yearling Sale tomorrow (Thursday).
Tasbreeders Executive Officer Nicholas Hay was on site at the Inveresk Showground during the day and offered the following comments on some of the stands-outs among the 136 yearlings catalogued for the sale.
ACELAND STUD
The charity All American colt (Lot 133) has been given plenty of publicity with half his proceeds being donated to the Salvation Army Bushfire Appeal.
A flashy individual with four white socks and big white blaze.
He’s compact, upstanding and should be popular.
ATKINS
Lot 111, Partners Choice out of Scottish Lass is a great winning family being a full sister to Launceston Cup placegetter, White Yard. ‘One of better bread and butter families in Tasmania’.
ALVA STUD
Owner Catherine Hills has 9 yearlings at the Magic Millions and the Any Given Saturday filly (Lot 34) appears a likely type. “From Tasmanian Guineas winner Di’s Angel and oozes class. She looks a real Oaks type.”
ARMIDALE STUD
A total of 29 lots from Armidale and the penultimate yearling through the ring is the Savoire Vivre filly out of Vickers (Lot 129). Out of a talented Flying Spur mare who won twice in Melbourne and her mainland gelding Luckyi’Mbarefoot has won twice at Sandown.
“Typical of the Savoire Vivre stock – big with plenty of scope. Should make a strong, staying filly as a three year-old.”
The Churchill Downs – Caralowe colt (Lot 18) is also rated highly by Hay. “He’s all quality and is a half-brother to Triple Asset who was the top two year-old down here a couple of years ago. She went across and won Group races in Melbourne and Adelaide.”
BOWTHORPE STUD
Bowthorpe’s successful sire, Azevedo has produced a lovely scopey colt in Lot 7 out of the Testa Rossa mare, Avanti Rossa. ‘This colt took my this afternoon as it arrived this morning to the Inveresk sales complex, He looks a racehorse with good shoulder.
BROOKLYN PARK
The highlight on type among Allan Howard and Debbie Thompson’s 10 yearlings is the California Dane – Nevertrice filly (Lot 86). “Quality yearling and her older half-brother Omega Quest can give the pedigree another update on Wednesday night.”
CAMOQUHILL STUD
Powerful colt from a family that has served Camoquhill so well for many years. By Swettenham sire Kaphero from Scenic mare Flower Garden (Lot 47) and is a half-brother to four winners including last month’s Devonport winner Keukenhof (Helike).
