In Brief
- Wednesday session spans more than four hours.
- Returning mare runs best time of the day.
- Another 11 trials to be run in Hobart on Friday.
A marathon session of 14 trials commenced in Launceston on Wednesday morning and finished in the early afternoon as a racing resumption edges closer.
With the surface at Longford deemed unsuitable, several trainers capitalised on the opportunity to utilise one of the state’s premier racetracks and with a maximum limit of four horses per trial it necessitated 14 trials to be run to accommodate the number of acceptances.
With the exception of the final trial which was held over 1100 metres the remainder were run over 800 metres on a soft 6 rated surface.
The fastest trial win of the day belonged to four-year-old mare Special Moment (main picture), who was the only horse to break 48 seconds for the day.
Initially trained in Tasmania by Chris Crook and Imogen Miller the mare was transferred to Kane Harris in Victoria for six starts that included two wins, concluding the campaign in November last year.
She is now in the care of Adam Trinder and easily accounted for her three rivals, two of which were from the same stable.
The interim return to racing schedule has the first thoroughbred meeting being conducted in Launceston on 14 June, and Wednesday’s 11-metre rail position served to protect the inside part of the track should that be the final outcome.
The next set of thoroughbred trials will be run in Hobart on Friday with 11 trials scheduled.
