In Brief
- 2YO Fillies headline Hobart card.
- Written In Silk has been working better this prep.
- Eight race card commences at 18:07.
The first feature harness race in Tasmania since the COVID-19 break will be staged Sunday in Hobart when the two-year-old fillies contest the Ladbrokes Blue Bonnet.
Written In Silk from the Ben Yole stable opened up the short price favourite Sunday morning, with the Sportswriter filly drawing nicely in barrier four in the 1609-metre event.
The filly has had four starts for one win and two placings, with the most recent effort being in Launceston on 5 July when second to Agouda Ruler, who recorded his fourth career win that night, in 1m 59.9s, and trainer Ben Yole is happy with his fillies improvement since that effort.
“She is a very promising filly, she wasn’t the best track worker but was a professional racehorse last time in, but this time in her track work has been better,” said Yole about the $20,000 yearling sale purchase from the 2019 Carrick Yearling Sale.
“These are the better fillies in Tassie, except for one or two, and if she goes well tonight there are plenty of fillies races coming up,” added Yole who is chasing his second win in the race after training 2015 winner Tanamay who gave driver Mark Yole his second win in the race with Ima Miss Molly being his other win in 2006 and Mark will take the reins on Written In Silk again Sunday.
One of the interesting runners in the race is the Paul Hill-trained debutante Magic Pebbles.
The filly is by Petrock and is the first foal out of El Jays Magic, who holds the mares track record in Hobart of 1m 55.4s.
Magic Pebbles has had three trials including a win on 23 March in 2m 15.0s, and she has had two placings in her two trials this preparation.
“She has improved a bit each time, and I think she is somewhere near the mark now so I thought I would give her a run and see how she goes,” said trainer Paul Hill on Tasracing’s From The Stables Podcast.
Ladbrokes opening market; $2.00 Written In Silk, $5.00 Melnrowley, $6.50 Stepping Stones, $8.00 Magic Pebbles, $8.50 Resurgent Rebel, $12 Iden Reactor, $21 Iden Miss Sophie, Whey Better and $26 Majestical Mollie.
The Blue Bonnet is the opening race on the card at 18:07, with all races to be shown on TasracingTV and Sky Racing 1.
