Respected greyhound trainer Gary Fahey will take four runners to Monday night’s Launceston greyhound meeting, three of which are on debut.
The most experienced runner of Fahey’s quartet is the My Bro Fabio – Dennes Point bitch Sacred Shadow, who lines up in the Greyhound Data Invitation over 515 metres, and Fahey believes it is a race of many winning chances.
“There’s not much between about five of them in the race, it could go any way,” Fahey said about the race where Connected sits at the top of early markets.
“(Her chances) is dependent on luck at the time, I’m sure she will run a good race, she never runs a bad one,” added the trainer.
Sacred Shadow’s career to date has seen the bitch win 21 of her 78 starts with a further 26 placings to her credit.
Her last outing was in the Greg Fahey Middle Distance Championship in Hobart where she was defeated 1.75 lengths by Twisted Reality.
The chaser hasn’t been to Launceston since 30 December where she won over the 600 metres.
“She is a great little chaser who gives her best every time she goes around, she is a gem to have,” said the Mangalore based trainer.
Fahey has three first starters racing on the card including My Bro Joe (Race 1 Box 6), Just Rambling (Race 2 Box 5) and Action Plus (Race 3 Box 3).
Corporate bookmakers kept two of the trio safe in early markets with My Bro Joe opening up as the $2.90 favourite, Just Rambling as the equal favourite at $2.80 in his event, while Action Plus opened up as a $4.00 chance on the second line of betting behind Highland Fame.
“We trialled them all a fortnight ago up there from those boxes and they all ran competitive times, all within about five-hundredths (of a second) of each other and there isn’t much between the three of them,” said Fahey
“They have all drawn horrible for first starts, inside draws are a must for that distance on that track,” explained the trainer.
“My Bro Joe has drawn six, Just Rambling has drawn five and Action Plus has drawn three, but he has David Croswell’s good dog (Highland Fame) drawn the red,” added Fahey.
When pushed on who was the best winning chance of the three debutantes, the trainer gave a slight lean to his runner in the opening race.
“My Bro Joe has the best winning chance of the three, but he has to begin well, but they are all good chasers, that’s not the worry this week, it’s just where they have drawn,” he said.
The trio who were bred by Gary and his brother Greg are by My Bro Fabio out of the talented butch Jouster who won 18 races.
Roy’s Rocket was the first winner out of the litter when he scored in Hobart on 6 August.
Monday night’s 10-race Launceston card commences at 19:37.
